Scientific Sessions
Aesthetic Dentistry
Abstracts of some of the Scientific Sessions are listed below:
Dr. Lukas Enggist
International Speaker includes Dr. Lukas Enggist med. dent. (from Liechtenstein) Dr. Enggist will make 2 presentations on Restorative Dentistry – one on Indirect Restorations and one on Direct Restorations.
Dr. Enggist graduated as dentist at the University of Berne and received his doctor’s degree with his thesis on adhesive cementation of titanium. As a co-author, Dr. Enggist has published several peer-reviewed articles.
Has the development of composites reached its end point?
Abstract: Since the introduction of reliable dentin adhesives restorative dentistry has developed fast. The minimal invasive technique for composite restorations has successfully been used for almost 20 years and must not be questioned any more. Physical properties of composites have improved over the years. Are there limitations or even contra indications for direct restorations? Can all clinical cases successfully be solved with composites? How long is the survival rate of composite restorations? Which factors influence the life span of a direct restoration mostly? The lecture will list some mistakes which can be avoided easily. What can the dentist do to overcome detrimental effects of these materials as shrinkage or shrinkage stress? What factors influence a composite filling negatively? Modern composites and adhesives will be used as examples to discuss these questions.
Topics that will be discussed during this lecture:
• Physical properties of modern composites
• Appropriate usage of composites
• How to improve the quality of direct restorations
• Advantages and disadvantages of different adhesive systems
• The influence of curing lights on the success of direct restorations
When to go for indirect restorations?
Abstract: Even if many clinical cases can be solved with direct restorations, indirect restorations are often done. New technologies like high strength glass ceramics and adhesive luting of ceramic restorations on tooth substance widen the indications. More and more these restorations become defect oriented. What are the advantages of indirect restorations? When should they be used?
The lecture will also discuss the cementation procedure. State of the art cementation procedure is necessary to guarantee a long survival of the restorations and therefore a satisfied patient. The treatment has to be well coordinated with the dental technician, therefore the dentist has to know a few things about the work which is done by the technician.
Topics that will be discussed in this lecture:
• Discussion of the critical steps when restoring teeth with
indirects
• What the dentist has to know about material properties
of ceramics
• Discussion of different classes of cements
• Which cement should be used and how
• Preparation guidelines

Addressing Dentin Hypersensitivity - Breakthrough Advances
Abstract: Changes in lifestyle have led to a significant increase in the prevalence of dentin hypersensitivity. The increasing use of acidic foods and especially drinks, has led to higher incidence of patients with tooth erosion across dental clinics globally. The stresses and strains of present day life more and more people are suffering from attrition and abfraction lesions of the teeth due to bruxism, have further compounded the problem.
Loss of superficial surface of the tooth’s cervical margins and the occusal surfaces, technique related issues during teeth restoration using dental adhesives and composites, and even, tooth whitening agents have also led to post procedural sensitivity.
The advent of newer breakthrough technologies and materials that occlude the dentinal tubules have now changed the way we would attempt to manage this burning issue of dentin hypersensitivity.
The presenter would highlight these newer management advances backed by his clinical expertise and supported by rich clinical research documentation.
Endodontic Session
Dr. Sunil Gohil -
Challenges in obturation techniques
Abstract:
Perphaps there is no technical operation in dentistry where so much depends on the conscientious adherence to high ideas as that of pulp canal filling.
Since years, there have been trial & errors in both materials and techniques used for obturation of complex root canal systems. Much to the frustration, the challenge still remains to achieve 100% result. There is disparity in which obturation system to follow, as the newer systems though good are more technique sensitive. We are going to discuss the older time tested methods versus the newer techniques and their advantages disadvantages in detail.
Dr Vinod Kumar - Twisted File.
Abstract:
Dr. Vinod Kumar will be discussing Revolutionary Change in Biomechanical Preparation with Single File technique with
twisted File.
Dr. Shail Jaggi

CT-Scan Based Guided Implant Surgery- “The Scan-Plan-Execute Concept”
Abstract: Conventional radiographic techniques including periapical and panoramic radiographs are limited by the two dimensional interpretation of existing hard and soft tissue. The inherent distortion factor can misrepresent bone topography in critical areas associated with vital anatomy or potential implant sites.
The advantages of CT-Scan based treatment planning.
• Technological advances in the areas of CT and Cone Beam-
CT (CBCT)
• Interactive treatment planning software
• CAD CAM applications for Prosthesis
• Minimally invasive flapless oral implant surgery with guided surgical procedures and CT-derived surgical templates
Implant dentistry enjoys one of the highest success rates for any orthopaedic medical restorative process. CT imaging can help clinicians improve all aspects of implant reconstruction, including both restorative and surgical phases while diminishing complications of mal-positioned implants. Getting the scan is only one part of the equation, giving rise to the slogan-“It is not the scan; it is the plan & execution!”

An insight to Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery
Abstract: The field of oral and maxillo-facial surgery has evolved through the ages from tooth pulling to creating new facial profiles.
Now oral and maxillo-facial surgery enjoys a unique position straddling both the dental and medical professions, many a times overlapping into areas that have traditionally been considered as medical specialties.
This presentation will take you through a journey from conventional oral surgery to the current state of the art maxillo-facial procedures
DR. ANURAG SINGH -
ANTIBIOTICS : USE,MISUSE AND OVERUSE
Abstract:
Antibiotics are the most widely abused prescribed drugs on the basis of inappropriate indications, dosages and duration of use. Approximately half of all antibiotics given to the patients without any signs or symptoms of infections, In many cases to prevent infections and to ensure that “everything was done” to avoid later criticism.
Antibiotics are often used as “drugs of fear” to cover for potential errors of omission or commission and thereby prevent a claim for negligence.
The abuse of negligence (tort) law has been a major contributing factor to massive overuse of antibiotics.
Principles of use of antibiotics pertaining to dentistry will be presented

Anterior Composite Restorations: the art simplified
Abstract:
Today our dental world is having high demands to perform cosmetic dental treatments but for many people cost plays a negative role as some of the procedures create big hole in the pocket.
Direct composite restorations come in handy in such situations where good results can be obtained in less expenditure and sometimes also in less time provided done carefully in right manner.
This presentation highlights on various complex considered issues which are often neglected like case selection, tooth preparation, techniques of placing composites and right methods of finishing them thereby enhancing the life of the restorations.
Dr.Nikhil Bahuguna.
FILL IT, SHUT IT …….FORGET IT!
Abstract:
Over the last few decades, the use of composite resin for the restoration of posterior teeth has significantly increased due to the esthetic demands and the desire to preserve sound tooth structure during cavity preparation. With the development of sophisticated adhesive systems and improved restorative resins, composite restorations have proved to be predictable successful.
Composite restorations are technique sensitive, especially in the posterior region where access, visibility and moisture control are sometimes difficult to achieve. Despite these difficulties, composite resins are a very popular as a restorative material of choice.
In order to restore teeth with direct composite resin; the clinician must have a sound knowledge and understanding of the concepts of adhesive techniques, cavity designs, pulp protection, placement techniques, curing methodology and technology, concepts of polymerization shrinkage and micro and nanoleakage and most importantly the finishing and polishing and protocol for the maintenance of the restoration for a long term success.
Orthodontic Session
Dr. Akshay Rathi
Orthodontics : Can Your Practice Afford To Ignore It ?
Abstract:
A traditional clinical practice constitutes :
a) The Dentist performing most of the clinical procedures himself with a special emphasis on certain procedures in which he or she develops interest or receives advanced training. Associates are also trained to handle all the rest of the day-to-day minor procedures and they are gradually ingrained into practice with experience;
b) Complex cases and procedures and sensitive patients are generally referred to a Specialist even though the general Dentist has a theorotical know-how of how the cases will be managed;and
c) The Orthodontic patients which are referred to the neighbourhood Orthodontist or are managed by a visiting Consultant. This group constitutes a part of the practice where the sole responsibility of the cases is transferred to the Orthodontist with the dentist just glancing a cursory look once in a while. Once the Orthodontic treatment is completed, the patients again enter the general stream of routine dentistry.
Such a model of practice was doing fine till now. However contemporary clinical practice has now evolved to a completely new want-based patient centric model with an emphasis on interactive treatment planing. The role of Orthodontics cannot be ignored or undermined while formulating a holistic treatment plan for the patient. Orthodontics plays an important role in a variety of clinical situations such as pre-implant space management, correction of aesthetic problems like increased gingival display, canting of occlusal plane, improvement of crown-root ratio, etc. Just like a practice is unimaginable without the knowledge of endodontics or prosthetics, the time has come that the same holds true for Orthodontics. The presentation will be supported by clinical cases to prove across this view point.
Dr. Jignesh Kothari
Lingual orthodontics & Clear Aligners- A new Era in adult orthodontics
Abstract:
Orthodontics has been associated with creating beautiful smiles since its inception as the first dental specialty from the beginning of the 20th century. Now, that orthodontics has passed its centennial year, it has become a fully integrated partner in the interdisciplinary development of the smile. For most of its life, orthodontics was delivered to children and adolescents. However, today orthodontics is not just for kids. In many parts of the world, orthodontic practices treat anywhere from 25% to 50% adults or more. But the major restraining factor among all adults is visibility of braces.
One of the most important challenges in orthodontics is to attain excellence in treatment with comfortable and esthetic appliances. Teeth alignment and facial balance need an invisible means of reaching the goal. From the esthetic perspective, lingual orthodontics provides the best option for comprehensive treatment of most malocclusions while maintaining full three-dimensional control of the dentition. Clear aligners also work as a wonderful alternative to patients who do not wish to have any braces or wires but yet wish to achieve the advantages of straight teeth.
This lecture shall primarily showcase cases with both techniques giving a new direction to Aesthetic Adult Orthodontics.
