TELEPHONE ETIQUETTES

Some Phone user ethics---All my understanding and any offence to any user of a different code is purely an intention to force a change.

1. No mobile phones should ring in the clinic. All staff and patients to follow a strict ‘NO RING CODE’ in the clinic. Notices to that effect should be displayed in the clinic reception.

2. All clinics should have a landline and a mobile helpline which should be active at all times(only exception to the ‘SILENT RULE’.)

3. If you have to speak to any person then the connection is made by the secretary and the person called should not be made to wait for you to come online.

4. If you have called another person then please do not accept another call (either on a different line or a call wait). It can be very irritating for the person holding on when he is at the receiving end. He is fully within ethical limits to keep you on hold while he takes another call (could be avoided) and then reverts to your call. Please do not hang up without seeking his permission to call at a later time.

5. Do not take calls when you are treating a patient (only emergency calls to come through).

6. Use sms service as liberally as you can as it is sure, safer and non-intrusive.

7. Revert to the sms party either through the same mode or a call preferably at the earliest time available.

8. Do not entertain solicitous calls - ask them to send email
(you can junk it).

9. Try not to change your cellphone service provider or the number as the patients can find it difficult to reach you in emergencies.

10. Use cellphones as far as possible on the vibrator mode to prevent noise pollution.
