Planmeca ProOne receives an iF product design award
The Finnish dental equipment manufacturer Planmeca’s novelty product, the fully digital Planmeca ProOne panoramic X-ray unit received an iF product design award 2008 in Germany. In the fall 2007 Planmeca products were recognized in the iF design competition in China as Planmeca ProOne received a honourable mention and Planmeca Sovereign dental unit was among the top ten entries in the competition. As one of the winners of the award Planmeca ProOne is entitled to use the iF seal of design excellence for the entire product lifecycle. The prize-winning products in the Medicine Health+Care category were praised by the jury for their appropriateness, deployment and atmosphere they created. In Planmeca ProOne these principals can be seen e.g. in compact dimensions, ease-of-use, extensive diagnostic capabilities as well as superior image quality. Planmeca ProOne was designed to be simple yet technologically advanced: Wide selection of exposure programs and parameters ensures that radiographic examinations of all kinds are effortless to perform. All selections are made with a graphical user interface on the full colour TFT display. The unit’s side entry patient access, open view and a triple laser beam system contribute to accurate and practical patient positioning for a standing or a seated patient. For patient safety the unit allows selection of correct exposure format, minimising the radiation dose for all types of patients and diagnostic purposes. “iF design award 2008 is yet another clear indication that our design principles are not only valuable in dentistry but highly esteemed also outside the dental sector. Besides technical innovations industrial design has been one of our top priorities and we have succeeded in both,” says Mr. Heikki Kyöstilä, President of the Planmeca Group. The iF design competition is organised by the German organisation iF International Forum Design. The award is one of the world’s oldest and best-known design competitions that took place for the 54th time. This year there were 2,771 entries from 35 nations, while a total of 821 awards were issued in 14 competition categories. The competition aims to enhance appreciation for excellent design and draw attention to outstanding design achievements. This year’s award ceremony took place on March 4, 2008 in Hannover, Germany. All award winners are displayed in the exhibition in Hannover from March to August reaching nearly 300,000 visitors.
